Have you ever been to New Braunfels?
New Braunfels is a city near San Antonio, Texas probably best known for it’s two rivers – the Comal and Guadalupe, as well as it’s German influence. New Braunfels is one of my favorite places in all of Texas maybe even in all of the US! My husband and I were lucky enough to get to live there when we first moved to Texas from Germany. In saying that, I want to share some of my favorite photo spots in New Braunfels and Gruene. Trust me, you wont want to miss this!
1. Gruene Hall
Gruene Hall is “the oldest continually run dance hall in Texas” built in 1878. It’s now a major tourist attraction and has hosted some of the largest country music acts like Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. It was also used as a set for the movie Michael, starring John Travolta.
This was the first spot on my list just because of how popular it is here in central Texas. It’s so pretty with the water tower in the background but I knew I had to go here first thing in the morning before all the tourists came to Gruene. I lucked out and had the place all to myself!
2. Downtown Gruene
While Gruene Hall might be the main landmark of the tiny town of Gruene, the rest of the town is so photogenic! The Gristmill restaurant has beautiful planter barrels with flower in the Spring and Summer, the shop windows, which you can click here to view similar options, are decorated beautiful and the Bed and Breakfast right next to Gruene Hall is a gorgeous white Victorian style house – an instagrammers paradise!
3. Faust Street Bridge
This gorgeous bridge is accessible from both sides and overlooks the Guadalupe River. Great spot for photos both from on the bridge and below! I ran out of time, so I only shot on the bridge but be sure to check out google images to see the views from below as well.
4. River Crossing -1402 Gruene Rd, New Braunfels
This river crossing right next to downtown Gruene is a great spot to grab a photo. You have easy access for parking and plenty of space to wade in the water and show off the gorgeous blue of the river.
5. Downtown New Braunfels
Similar to Gruene, downtown New Braunfels is a treasure trove of beautiful old buildings, home and some cool murals. I found the one on 111 S Castell Ave on google images and thought it would be a cool spot for an “edgier” outfit!
