Paper Crafts: Making easy backdrops for photos

If you are like me and love nothing more than taking cute photos of yourself and your kiddos (or maybe just your kids), I have some fun ideas for you on how to create easy backdrops using just paper, scissors and some tape!

The first thing you will need to find is a good blank wall! This can be anywhere from a bedroom to a hallway as long as you get some good natural light in that area. I have even gone as far as to take a picture off the wall in the past to come up with some blank space – anything for the shot right?

Once you have figured out a good spot to take your photos, get creative with your paper crafts! Think back to Elementary school when you used to make paper chains like it was your jobs or how you used to make snowflakes with paper! Either of those thing could make a super cute backdrop. I am constantly looking at pinterest for paper backdrops or my favorite Instagram account to follow – @ohhappyday for new ideas. Two of my favorite, albeit some of the most elaborate are my white daisies and my most recent GIANT red heart!

DAISIES: I followed this tutorial from the House that Lars built and just made as many daisies as I could – just depending on how much wall space you are needing to fill. Literally the only tools you need are:

  • white butcher paper (we get ours from the local party supply by the foot. We got 30 feet for 30 flowers)
  • yellow cardstock
  • glue gun
  • scotch tape

I’m not going to lie this was a little time consuming but I would just cut out petals at night in front of the TV and then when it came time to assemble, same thing. Just knocked a few out every night until I was done! I have used these several times and they are starting to look a little rough but I just cant bring myself to throw them away!

RED HEART: For this I did not have a tutorial, just a photo I found online. I ordered cheap construction paper on amazon (100 pack) and starting laying the pages out on the floor. I counted 8 rows tall and 12 pages wide. From there I started taping the pages together using packing tape, making sure the spot where 4 pages meet was taped well. I chose to make one half of the heart first; I drew the heart shape on the pages several times until I was happy with the shape and cut it out.

From there I just had to lay the cut half on top of the other half, trace and cut. Then I taped both side together and was able to (with the help of my husband) tack it to the wall! Easy, affordable and makes a HUUUUGE statement!

I hope you liked these little tips on things you can create at home, with your kids, for little money to create awesome eye catching images. Please let me know in the comments if you would like to see more tutorials like this in the future! Lord knows I am always whipping something up and I’d be glad to share <3
